2 – 3 February: Depart UK/Arrive in Japan
Depart from London Heathrow Airport on 2 February 2019 (with a change of plane at Helsinki airport) and arrive at Kansai International Airport (Osaka) the following day. (Non-UK passengers should make a flight booking to arrive before the main the group so that we can meet you at the airport). Transfer to your hotel in Kyoto by private coach. Check in to your hotel for 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis.
4 February: Sightseeing in Kyoto
After breakfast, depart on a full day tour of Kyoto by private coach. Visit the beautiful Temple and gardens of the Golden Pavilion and then enjoy a series of Zen Buddhist rock gardens at Daitoku-ji Temple. Then on to the Kyoto Handicraft Centre where you have time to have lunch and browse a multitude of craft shops. Visit the stunning Kiyomizu Temple perched on the slopes of a hillside. Enjoy a delicious included Welcome Dinner tonight.
5 February: Nara
We take a short train trip to the town of Nara. There we walk to Todaiji Temple – the largest wooden building in the world, which contains the Great Buddha – Japan’s largest. Take a stroll in Nara Park and feed the deer. You can either remain in Nara or return to Kyoto as the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure.
(Tonight, you’ll need to pack your main luggage as this will be sent ahead to your hotel in Tokyo for your arrival. You will therefore need to carry a small overnight bag for the next 2 days)
6 February: Kinashi Bonsai Village/Okayama
After checking out of the hotel in the morning, we travel westward on the Bullet Train to Shikoku – the smallest and least explored of Japan’s 4 main islands. Here you have all day to explore wonderful Kinsai Bonsai Village – the largest Bonsai village in Japan – where, amongst other sights, you can view field upon field of miniature black pines. Later in the afternoon, we travel to our hotel in Okayama for 2 nights.
7 February: Adachi Museum of Art
Today we visit the Adachi Museum famous for its spectacular 6 gardens featuring pine trees and rocks collected from across Japan and its collection of contemporary Japanese art.
8 February: Korakuen Garden
Today visit Korakuen, a traditional stroll garden in Okayama and one of Japan’s three most celebrated gardens. In the afternoon, we will speed off to Tokyo and check into our hotel for 5 nights.
9 February: Tokyo
Today is the day we visit the wonderful Kokufu Bonsai-ten, the largest and most prestigious bonsai event held in Japan.
10 February: Omiya Bonsai Village
We travel a little further north today by train to visit a selection of beautiful nurseries at Omiya Bonsai Village in Saitama prefecture.
11 February: Shunka-en and Asakusa
Today we visit the Shunka-en Bonsai Museum owned by the Bonsai Master Kunio Kobayashi, who has worked on numerous Koku prizewinning trees. We then take the subway to the bustling Sensoji Temple in Asakusa before returning to our hotel.
12 February: Tokyo
Enjoy today at leisure. For many of you this will be a chance to revisit the Kokufu Bonsai-ten as there will be a new display of bonsai on show for the second exhibit. We will have a Farewell Dinner this evening.
13 February: Depart Japan
Sadly it is time to say sayonara. Transfer to Narita Airport (Tokyo) from where you depart home.

This business class hotel features compact well-equipped rooms with flat screen TVs, refrigerators and bathroom amenities. All rooms have free wi-fi. Computer terminals are available in the lobby along with 24-hour coin laundry.
Breakfast is a light Japanese breakfast consisting of rice balls, miso soup, some salad items and also a little bread.
Superbly located on Shijo Street which is the main street for shopping with a number of department stores and fantastic restaurants. Nearby is the fascinating Nishiki food market and the covered markets.
This finely decorated hotel is well situated, with only a 5 minute walk between Okayama Station and the hotel. The Okayama Karakuen Garden, as well as Okayama Castle are also accessible via a short tram ride. Many restaurants, bars and a shopping mall are nearby, offering you a wide choice of places to relax, shop, and have fun. In addition, the hotel is home to its very own library and museum, containing many fine pieces of pottery from Okayama Prefecture.
The rooms are comfortable, spacious and excellently furnished, with a modern and artistic décor.
The hotel’s restaurant offers fantastic Japanese cuisine, serving a wide variety of dishes made with fresh local ingredients.

To make a booking, a deposit of £300.00 per person is required. The balance of the price of the trip must be made 12 weeks prior to departure. All price estimates are based on a minimum of 15 persons travelling in February 2019.
