Japan Gourmet Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – 2: Depart UK/Arrival in Japan
Fly from London Heathrow to Kansai International Airport (Osaka) from where you will be met and taken to Kyoto by private coach. Check into your centrally-located 4* Kyoto hotel for 4 nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 3: Sightseeing in Kyoto
Enjoy the sights of Kyoto today. You’ll visit some beautiful shrines and temples, including Kinkaku-ji (the Golden Pavilion), the Zen temple and gardens of Daitoku-ji, and Kiyomizu temple, which offers breathtaking views over the city. Your knowledgeable guide will help you appreciate Japan’s city of culture. For dinner, you’ll enjoy a kaiseki (Japanese haute cuisine) meal for which Kyoto is famed.

Day 4: Sightseeing in Nara
This morning we will make the short trip by local train to the ancient city of Nara, home to the world’s largest wooden building and the Great Buddha statue. We will enjoy a delicious lunch of noodles before visiting the lovely town of Uji famed throughout Japan for the quality of its tea. Here we’ll have a delightful green tea experience and learn how the best tea is made. For dinner tonight you will be treated to a fabulous sukiyaki meal.

Day 5: Kyoto Food Market & Cooking Experience
You’ll start today with a cooking lesson in which you’ll learn to make popular everyday dishes such as dumplings and roasted eggplant which you can easily replicate at home. Enjoy the fruits of your labour for lunch. Next visit to the bustling Nishiki-Koji food market to explore the variety of culinary delights.  Enjoy the rest of the afternoon at leisure. A delicious Japanese dinner is included tonight.

Day 6: Kyoto to Hakone
Today we say goodbye to Kyoto and board Japan’s famous Bullet Train bound for Hakone, a quiet mountain resort nestling in the foothills of Mt Fuji. We suggest you buy traditional o-bento (lunchboxes) for lunch today which you’ll eat on the train Japanese-style. We check into our lovely 4* Deluxe hotel for the night. You are free to spend the afternoon strolling the mountain paths or relaxing in your hotel’s soothing, private indoor and outdoor hot spring baths. Enjoy a delicious three course meal tonight at your hotel. Breakfast & Dinner included

Day 7: Hakone to Tokyo
Following breakfast, we will explore the landscape of Hakone by private coach, enjoy a cruise across Lake Ashi, ride in a cable car for a 360-degree panorama of the surrounding mountains and volcanic valleys of Owakudani and visit the Hakone Open Air Museum. We then make the short train ride onwards to Tokyo, a city which must be seen to be believed. Check into your centrally-located 4* Tokyo hotel for 4 nights. Enjoy another delicious included meal tonight.

Day 8: Tokyo sightseeing
We will be up early this morning to explore the biggest fish wholesale market in the world! Next stop is Hamarikyu garden, where you can enjoy a relaxed stroll and a cup of green tea. From here we will head up the river by boat to the bustling Kappabashi area will visit its famous cookware shops. As you’ll probably know, there are more Michelin starred restaurants in Tokyo than Paris. Tonight, you will have the opportunity of visiting one of these restaurants yourself.

Day 9: Tokyo sightseeing
Today we will visit Harajuku, the birthplace of many of Japan’s fashion trends. Nearby is serene Meiji Shrine, famous for its giant toori gate entrance. The approximately 100,000 forested grounds mask the sound of the busy city, giving all a sense of tranquillity. This afternoon we’ll ascend Tocho tower for some fantastic views over the city.

Today is yours to enjoy at leisure. Join us for a Farewell dinner.

Accommodation in Kyoto

Karasuma Kyoto Hotel


Located a few minutes walk from Shijo Street which is the main street for shopping with a number of department stores and fantastic restaurants.

Single rooms are compact and doubles more generously sized and recently renovated. All rooms have TV, refrigerator and tea making facilities. Free LAN internet is available in room and free wifi is available in the lobby.

The Karasuma Kyoto Hotel has a large selection of Western and Japanese breakfast items and there is also an onsite Starbucks and bakery. Other facilities include a Chinese and Japanese restaurant and a bar.

Accommodation in Hakone

Hakone Highland Hotel


The former residence of a baron, this hotel is located in picturesque countryside in close proximity to Mount Fuji. In the spring and summer months, wonderful wild birdsong can be heard amongst the trees surrounding the hotel, creating a charming and tranquil environment. In true Hakone fashion, the hotel also boats a hot spring for you to enjoy and relax in.

Rooms in this hotel offer a great amount of space, with a décor that is simple, yet elegant. High speed wifi is available in all rooms, as well as a set of bird watching binoculars and sandals for strolling in the hotel’s gardens.

The hotel’s excellent restaurant offers a fusion of French cuisine with Japanese cooking techniques. An authentic firewood stove is used to cook meat, culminating in delectable dishes.

Accommodation in Tokyo

Opened in 2014, this is one of the newest hotels in the Shinjuku area. Very centrally located and just a 3-miunte walk from JR Shinjuku Station, Blossom Hotel Shinjku offers rooms with TV, fridge and Wi-fi as well as a good breakfast.
