A fantastic value escorted tour timed to coincide with Japan’s famous maple leaf season.* Experience the ancient temples and exquisite landscape of Japan as well as ultra-modern conveniences such as the Bullet Train. This fabulous itinerary takes in the glorious former capitals of Kyoto and Nara and the bright lights of Tokyo utilizing Japan’s superbly efficient public transport system. There’s also an opportunity to pay a moving visit to the city of Hiroshima and the lovely nearby island of Miyajima.

*Most Japanese temples and shrines have associated gardens so you’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful maple leaves whilst on tour.

6 November: Arrive Japan
You will be met on arrival at Narita International Airport (Tokyo) where you’ll be issued with your PASMO transport card before travelling on to your hotel. Check in to your centrally located 3* Tokyo hotel for 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

7 November: Tokyo
After breakfast, you’ll visit Meiji Shrine - a haven of tranquillity in busy Tokyo and one of the most beautiful shrines in all Japan. As it’s a Sunday, you’ll have the added advantage of being able to watch wedding parties gather at the shrine. Nearby in the lively district of Harajuku, you can wander chic Omotesando Boulevard and browse the Oriental Bazaar for handicraft goods and souvenirs.

8 November: Tokyo
After breakfast, you’ll visit bustling Senso-ji Temple in the downtown area of Asakusa. You’ll then move on to Akihabara, Tokyo's 'Electric City' where you can browse a multitude of electronic goods stores. In the afternoon you’ll visit Shinjuku Gyoen – one of Tokyo’s loveliest parks.

9 November: Kyoto
Today you say goodbye to Tokyo and board the superb Bullet Train and speed to Kyoto – Japan’s former capital. Enjoy the afternoon visiting the sights beginning with beautiful Kiyomizu-dera, a hillside temple offering wonderful views. You’ll then go on to imposing Nijo Castle famous for its squeaking “nightingale” floor which alerted its inhabitants to approaching Ninja. Late in the afternoon you’ll check in to your centrally located 3* Kyoto hotel for 3 nights on a bed and breakfast basis.

10 November: Nara
After breakfast, you’ll take the train to the sleepy town of Nara, Japan's first permanent capital and home to eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The highlight of the day is a visit to Todai-ji Temple, the largest wooden building in the world and home to the Great Buddha. Nara Park is a lovely place to stroll, relax and feed the deer. This afternoon you are free to continue exploring Nara or return to Kyoto.

11 November: At leisure
Enjoy your last day in Kyoto at leisure. You might want to continue visiting the multitude of temples, shrines and gardens, or alternatively you may want to shop or sample some local cuisine for which Kyoto is justly famous. We will also be arranging a superb optional day trip to Hiroshima and the nearby beautiful island of Miyajima with a delicious included lunch

12 November: Tokyo
Today you’ll board the Bullet train back to Tokyo for your final night.

13 November: Depart
Sadly it is time to depart as you travel to Narita Airport (Tokyo) from where you board your flight home.
