Japan Gardens Tour
November 2009 dates coming soon

A tour of the exquisite gardens and landscapes of Japan

Days 1-2: UK-Osaka-Kyoto
Fly overnight from London Heathrow to Osaka. From there you will transferred by private coach to your hotel in Kyoto. Enjoy a welcome dinner.

Day 3: Kyoto
After breakfast, we visit the beautiful gardens and Temple of the Golden Pavilion and the numerous delightful gardens at the Daitokuji temple complex. After our included lunch at The Kyoto Handicraft Centre, we go on to visit the gardens at Heian Shrine.

Day 4: Kyoto
After breakfast, we tour the wonderful Kyoto Botanical Gardens with over 120,000 plants on show. The afternoon is yours to enjoy at leisure.

Day 5: Nara
Today we take a short train trip to the nearby town of Nara where we visit the Pagoda of Kofuku Temple and then go on to spectacular Todaiji Temple - the largest wooden building in the world which contains the Great Buddha. Take a stroll in Nara Park and feed the deer. After our return to Kyoto, we tour the imposing Nijo Castle and its gardens

Day 6: Kyoto
Today we visit the Temple and gardens of the Silver Pavilion before going on to the lovely gardens at Shisen-do. In the afternoon we visit the Nishijin Textile Center in the Nishijin district - the famous home of Kyoto’s silk fabric weavers. Here you can try on a kimono or try hand weaving (both require a prior appointment), watch a kimono show and learn about the method of kimono making.

Day 7: Kyoto
Today is yours to enjoy at leisure. You may wish to join an optional tour by train to Mikimoto Pearl Island (the birthplace of cultured pearls) and the Grand Shrine of Ise (the spiritual heartland of Japan and thought to be the home of the Sun Goddess).

Day 8: Shirakawago-Ogimachi-Takayama
After breakfast we’ll check out of our hotel and board our coach bound for the Japanese Alps. On route, we’ll explore the stunning landscape of Ogimachi, another UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its distinctive thatched farmhouses. We’ then continue on our journeys to Takayama where we check in to Hotel Associa for 2 nights. Dinner at the hotel is included this evening.

Day 9: Takayama
Feel the pace of life slow down as we visit Takayama’s famous morning market and the town’s delightful old quarter. Afterwards we view the Furukawa Festival Hall and see the magnificent floats used in Takayama’s famous Festivals.

Day 10: Takayama-Matsumoto-Tokyo
We check out of our hotel after breakfast. On the way to Tokyo, we will stop at the city of Matsumoto famous for its soaring Castle. We will continue on towards Tokyo where you will spend the next 3 nights. Dinner at the hotel is included this evening.

Day 11: Tokyo
After our buffet breakfast, enjoy a city tour including the Imperial Palace, the beautiful gardens of Hama-Rikyu where you can enjoy the vistas whilst partaking of green tea at the Tea House. We then travel on to Korakuen (another famous stroll garden).

Day 12: Tokyo
Today is yours to enjoy at leisure. You may wish to do further sightseeing or shopping in this lively city. Alternatively, you can also join an optional excursion by coach to Nikko (which houses the fabulously colourful Toshugu Shrine), Kegon waterfalls and Lake Chuzenji. Enjoy a farewell dinner in the evening.

Day 13: Tokyo-UK
Transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
