An unforgettable springtime holiday in Japan which coincides with the famous cherry blossom season. Experience the ancient temples and exquisite landscape of Japan as well as ultra-modern conveniences such as the Bullet Train. This fabulous itinerary takes in the glorious former capitals of Kyoto and Nara, as well as a moving visit to Hiroshima, the lovely island of Miyajima and a stay near Mt Fuji before heading to the bright lights of Tokyo.

All Japanese temples and shrines have adjacent gardens where you’ll be able to enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms.

Day 1 & 2: UK/Japan
On arrival and transferred to your central 3* Kyoto hotel for 5 nights. Enjoy a Welcome Dinner on arrival.

Day 3: Guided sightseeing in Kyoto
Enjoy a full day visiting the sights of Kyoto by private air-conditioned coach, beginning with the beautiful temples and blossoming gardens of Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion. Next, we will visit the famous Zen Buddhist rock garden at Ryoan-ji. Following a buffet lunch at Kyoto Handicraft Centre, we will visit Kiyomizu-dera, a hillside temple offering fabulous views over the city. Your knowledgeable guide will accompany you throughout.

Day 4: Nara
Today we will take the train to the sleepy town of Nara, Japan's first permanent capital and home to eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The highlight of the day is a visit to Todai-ji temple, the largest wooden building in the world and home to the Great Buddha. Nara Park is a lovely place to stroll, relax and feed the deer. This afternoon you are free to continue exploring Nara or return to Kyoto.

Day 5: Kyoto
Today is yours to enjoy at leisure. You might like to start exploring by yourself using your Japan Rail Pass. Why not visit magnificent Himeji Castle, around an hour from Kyoto? You could even check out nearby Osaka, Japan's lively second city.

Day 6: Day excursion to Hiroshima & Miyajima
After breakfast we will board the world-famous bullet train and pay a visit to the moving city of Hiroshima. We first take a short ferry ride to the beautiful island of Miyajima, once considered so sacred that commoners were forbidden. After lunch we visit the Atomic Bomb Dome, Peace Memorial Park and Peace Memorial Museum. We return to Kyoto this evening.

Day 7: Kyoto to Hakone
Today we say goodbye to Kyoto and board the Bullet Train bound for Hakone, a quiet mountain resort nestling in the foothills of Mt Fuji. We check into the wonderful Hakone Prince hotel for the night. You are free to spend the afternoon strolling through the mountain paths and relaxing in your hotel’s soothing hot spring bath, looking out over majestic Lake Ashi.

N.B. In order to make your journey to Tokyo more comfortable, we recommend that you pack a small overnight bag for your night’s stay in Hakone as the remainder of your luggage will be sent ahead separately to your Tokyo hotel. The cost of sending one standard-sized suitcase is included in our tour price. Additional baggage will cost extra.

Day 8: Hakone to Tokyo
Following breakfast, we will explore the landscape of Hakone, ride in a cable car for a 360 degree panorama of the surrounding mountains and enjoy a cruise across Lake Ashi. In the afternoon the bullet train will speed you to Tokyo, a city which must be seen to be believed. Your clean and comfortable 3* hotel is located in the lively Shinjuku district, an ideal place to experience modern, urban Japan.

Day 9: Tokyo
Today we will visit the lively district of Harajuku.  As it’s a Sunday, you’ll be able to see young Japanese dressed up in their wackiest clothing at this friendly spot.  Nearby Meiji Shrine is a haven of tranquillity in busy Tokyo and one of the most beautiful shrines in Japan. We should be able to see cherry blossoms in Yoyogi Park and you are free to wander chic Omotesando Boulevard and browse the Oriental Bazaar for handicraft goods and souvenirs.

Day 10: Guided sightseeing in Tokyo
Enjoy a full-day city tour by private coach beginning with the Imperial Palace. We will then visit bustling Senso-ji Temple in the downtown area of Asakusa, and you will be able to browse a multitude of electronic stores in Akihabara, Tokyo's 'Electric City'. Relax in the afternoon and enjoy the cherry blossoms in Ueno Park. We will have a fantastic Farewell Dinner in the evening.

Day 11: Depart Japan
Depart from Narita International Airport (Tokyo).
